Apple Growers and Merchants Treasure Hunt Returns To The Oak Glen 24th Annual Apple Blossom Festival

Oak Glen, California – Oak Glen Apple Growers Association announces the 24th Annual Oak Glen Apple Blossom Festival taking place Saturday and Sunday April 21 and 22, 2012.

The mountain community of Oak Glen is known as one of the largest apple growing regions in the Southland, just 90 minutes from Los Angeles on the way to Palm Springs. Each spring Oak Glen celebrates the blossoming of the trees with a fun for the whole family Apple Blossom Festival.

Returning to the Oak Glen Apple Blossom Festival for the second year, is the interactive “Growers and Merchants Treasure Hunt.” Visitors to the Apple Blossom Festival will receive a treasure map guiding them from orchard to orchard and merchant to merchant with the opportunity to win prizes donated by Oak Glen’s growers and merchants. Winners will be announced and prizes given daily at 4:00 p.m. at Los Rios Rancho.

The public may also participate in the “Everything Apple” Baking Contest to be held at The HomeStead at Wilshire’s Ranch Oak Glen’s newest wedding and event venue located at 11951 Oak Glen Road.  The contest is open to anyone from 10 to 100 in either the Junior or Adult Divisions. Categories for entry include pies, breads, turnovers, strudel, muffins, cakes and cupcakes. Judging begins at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday. Guest judges include, Neil Derry, San Bernardino County Supervisor, Stephanie Georgieff, host, RealFoodEmpire  radio, KCAA 1050; Stacy Dean, Pastry Chef, Kopper Kettle Kafe, Yucaipa and Glenn Hamann, owner, Glenn's Creative Catering, new to Oak Glen. 

For those interested in learning more about apples, Alison Law-Mathisen of Moms Country Orchards will be presenting a free of charge, “Apple History and Identification Seminar” at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday at Moms Country Orchards. Visitors will learn some of Oak Glen’s apple history; how to identify different varieties of apples; which are early varieties; late varieties; are reds always sweet, green always tart; which are the best baking apples and much more.

Saturday evening events offer something for the star gazer and the swing dancer with “Things Are Looking Up” star and planet gazing with telescopes at The Wildlands Conservancy including special guests from the San Bernardino Amateur Astronomers; and for the dancers, “In Apple Blossom Time” Jazz Swing Dance at Los Rios Rancho with live music by Eric Cutshall and The Hilltop Ramblers. Both events begin at 7:00 p.m.
