FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Oak Glen Apple Season Has Robust Opening
Oak Glen, CA - Labor Day Weekend marked the official opening of Apple Season in Oak Glen. Orchard and business owners shared the same sentiment - this year’s season opening surpassed that of last year.
Terry Fox, owner of the Oak Tree Village said attendance was “way ahead of last year.” Oak Tree Village offers visitors and families a restaurant, bakery, gift shops, animal park, trout fishing, pony rides and live music.
The Parrish Pioneer Ranch is host to a fast moving, stunt laced Pirate Show every Sunday afternoon. With standing room only at both shows for Apple Season Opening weekend, Harley Freeman, the show’s creator and lead pirate said, “We had enough people in attendance that we could have done three shows. “ The Pirate adventure takes place every Sunday afternoon at 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. through December. All shows are geared for family and always free.
Glenn Hamann, owner of the recently opened “That Creative Café “and “Black Twig Gift Shop” located in the historic Wilshire Apple Shed said “this weekend surpassed our grand opening weekend.” Still other visitors filled the parking lot at Los Rios Rancho for the opportunity to get some u-pick apples of their own. One of several u-pick orchards in Oak Glen, Los Rios Rancho had various varieties of apples and berries available for visitors wanting the experience of picking their own apples fresh from the tree.
Visitors to Oak Glen also found plenty of raspberry picking, fresh cider and mini cider donuts available at Snow-Line Orchard, an original 1898 packing shed.
Apple Season runs September through Thanksgiving Weekend in November. There are several orchards in Oak Glen that offer u-pick fruit. Most will be open 7 days a week; some are open weekends only and by appointment on weekdays. Most apple shed locations also have fresh picked and bagged apples available and are making fresh cider daily. Fresh apple pies can also be found at several locations throughout the 5-mile Oak Glen loop.
Oak Glen grows more than 70 varieties of apples. Some are early fall varieties, others later fall. Orchard ranchers suggest visiting the Oak Glen website at www.oakglen.net for an up to date crop report throughout the season. Links to orchards and businesses are on the website. Visitors can also check the website’s detailed calendar of events for information and schedules of other seasonal activities taking place.
Oak Glen is an easy day trip (30 to 90 minutes) from Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino Counties, and is located in the San Bernardino Mountains between Redlands and Palm Springs.
