First you must remove any viruses, spyware, and other security threats. To do this follow the detailed article that I wrote with directions for removing viruses:
How to remove viruses
What is a virus?
malware?
spyware? adware?
scareware?

Remember that I am here to help if you need it along the way. There is nothing that I can’t fix! GUARANTEED! Now that your virus and security threat free, let’s continue. Please note that if you’re not completely 100% virus and malware free, your speedup attempts will fail!   We are going to need these tools:

Iobit Advanced System Care Pirform Ccleaner Firefox
Gom Player

The best way to start is to adjust your startup programs. Don’t let this scare you, it is really easy and safe!  Click start>run in Windows Xp or from Vista, and Windows 7 click start>and type msconfig in the search box and hit enter (see image below)

Click on the startup tab or see this video: VIDEO LINK HERE
I would suggest that you  turn off anything that is not needed by Windows. For example don’t turn off your wireless or network, you CAN turn off  Adobe products,  Quicktime products and such. If you have any questions about items, ask me and I will let you know if you should have it off or on.  One thing that may help you is, just because you turn an item off doesn’t mean that it won’t work. When you have these turned off, that just means they won’t load up at startup, decreasing your startup time. These items that you turn off will still load up when you need them. For example, if you turn off Adobe, it will still open when you need it.

Have I mentioned yet, that I suggest that you do not use Internet Explorer? Not only is it unsecure, its SLOOOOOOOW!

Sorry people. I just could not resist that.

Now restart your computer.
Install Iobit Advanced System Cleaner and install Ccleaner.  Install Firefox and once installed do not use Internet Explorer unless you have to have for school or work. Internet Explorer is not safe and will leave you open to security threats.  I suggest you install Gom Player as well, this will play ALL forms of media. Windows Media Player is good enough, but, I guarantee that one day you will want to play a video, such as an mp4 and you will not be able to view it. Media Player does not play all formats, Gom does.

Now first we are going to change some Microsoft Windows settings.  Open My Computer or Computer depending on which version of windows that you have. Right click on c: drive and click properties. Un check the second box. It will say indexing or Allow files to be indexed.  Click apply and when it pops up, click ignore all. This will take a long time and then click ok when the progress bar disappears.

You can either wait or move on while it completes in the background. Go to: Start> Control Panel>System and then advanced system settings. Under performance click settings. Check the box that states best performance. Click apply and then ok. You will see a box that pops up and the color will fade while it completes.  For Vista and Windows 7, If followed my tutorial on security and viruses then go to Start> Control Panel> Users>Change User Account Control>Use the scroller to never notify and click ok.  Changes will take effect after restarting the computer, but we will restart later.

Now for the fun stuff: Open Iobit Advanced System Care, and click Deep Care then Scan Now. This may take a long time. When scan is finished click repair. We can now close it out and open Ccleaner.  I would suggest that you check all options on the left excepts SAVED FORM HISTORY, PASSWORDS, then all the way at the bottom on the left is the last two, I would suggest leave them unchecked,  CUSTOM FILE AND FOLDERS, and WIPE FREE SPACE. The wipe free space is awesome but it takes a long time. Click on Run Cleaner. After it’s finished, it will tell you how much space is cleaned.  Now look on the left of Ccleaner and there is a button that is labeled Registry with a blue image. Click on this and click Scan for Issues.  When scan is complete, click on Fix selected issues and choose now on the popup, then click Fix all Selected Issues then when done click close and close out CCLeaner and restart your computer. (AS LONG AS YOUR c:/ ATTRIBUTES PROGRESS BAR IS GONE.  ALSO if you have more then one drive listed in Computer or My Computer make sure to turn indexing off on that as well unless it is your disc drive.
