Business Description

Pop Pop Ferguson Blues® founded to promote, preserve and advance the culture of blues music as an art form in America. We make every attempt to link what is general and vague to that, which is the known fact of an oppressed people who found freedom in their music. What we teach are facts derived from knowledge gained through living our legacy and from personal experiences with authentic Blues artists in their 80s and 90s who continue to perform today. Though Piedmont Blues is of our geographical region, our Blues education curriculum extends well beyond the Piedmont region of the US. Our belief is that a well-rounded Blues education leads to an unequivocal experience when complemented with authentic Blues entertainment. Welcome to the BLUES as performed by Pop Ferguson Blues "Up close and personal” Pop Ferguson Blues was established in 2007 when a father and son were reunited and found that they had more in common than the blood that flows through their veins. They shared a heartbeat of a heritage being pushed aside by modern day versions called Blues. Pop Ferguson Blues was never about the man it was named after, but about the heritage of a culture being “grayed out” by imitation of the original Blues. Therefore Pop Ferguson Blues believes that we have a responsibility to educate first then entertain. Putting education to the forefront, Pop Ferguson Blues® presents lectures; demonstrations; concerts of blues and gospel music; hands-on Blues workshops, and “Roots Music in Schools” programs. Our programs teach cultural influence through the use of roots music, oral history and storytelling, as well as vocal and instrumental performances. The full vision is actualized with a Blues Heritage Festival at the end of each school year which occurs every June in Lenoir, NC. A deeper understanding of the people behind Pop Ferguson Blues Clyde “Pop” Ferguson (namesake) started out in gospel in the church and he is now celebrating 75 years of Blues. Clyde Ferguson, Jr. (Chairman of the Board) realized an appreciation of the Blues long before he learned to play guitar. He says, “I have been a member of the original “Blues Society” for 61 years; I was born in it”. Clyde is now compelled to bring back to the forefront the heritage that lies behind the roots of Blues. Curt Hiller (vice-Chairman) has attended concerts of all genres from alternative classical to African since 1969. Along with his appreciation for musical arts, he brings his marketing and business background to the table. The Pop Ferguson Blues Heritage Festival Board was carefully recruited to complement the dedication, love and expertise required to promote, preserve and advance the culture of blues music as an art form in America.
