Window Cleaning Steps and Tips

Everyone seems to dread cleaning the windows. It is something that needs to be done, but doesn’t seem high on the to-do list. When you finally get around to doing them, you might as well do it right. If you follow these steps and clean them the right way, you will be done quicker and have better results. So here are some Seattle window cleaning steps and tips for when you get up the courage to tackle those eye sores.

Step One: The Scrubber

First, you want to get a scrubber. This is something that looks like a squeegee but has soft, fluffy material in its place. The scrubber will be used to spread soapy water onto the window. You should use about one or two teaspoons of dishwashing soap in a bucket with a few gallons of water. You don’t want to soak the window, so don’t get too much liquid onto the scrubber. Scrub the window, making sure to get all the edges.

Step Two: The Squeegee

Next, you will take a squeegee and work to get the soapy water off the window. It works best if you use horizontal strokes and start at the top. Starting at the top makes it so any extra dripping just goes into the area you haven’t done yet. If you start anywhere else, you will risk having to do sections of the window again. You should wipe the blade with a clean cloth after every pass across the window. This will help keep the squeegee from streaking water across the window.

Step Three: The Washcloth

Lastly, you want to take a washcloth and wipe any excess water you may see on your window. Sometimes it can be difficult to get into the edges and there may be some remaining water. You can also wipe any streaks that may have ended up on your window. The best type of material to use is a microfiber cloth or another type that has little to no lint. If your cloth got too wet during the squeegee process, you should find a clean, dry one to use for this step.

Extra Tips

A bad squeegee can make for double the work and double the time. You may think you are saving yourself money by not purchasing a new one, but it will be worth it in the end. You should also consider using a razor blade if you have any residue stuck on the window. This will be a lot easier than trying to scrub it off with your scrubber. When it comes to Seattle window cleaning, usually the hardest part is getting up the motivation to get it done.
