Doors are a piece of your home that get used all the time; every day your doors get opened and closed. It is important to keep your doors in good repair so that they can do their job properly. Because doors get treated to so much wear and tear, they can easily fall into disrepair, but it is important to make sure that you keep an eye on some key indicators that may signal that you need to repair or replace your doors so that you can make sure your doors are always doing their job. Here are some indicators that you may need to change your Cape Cod doors.
Heating Bill Prices
One indicator that your doors need replacement or repairing can come from your heating bill. If you have a high energy bill and have older doors installed in your home, then these doors are probably the cause of your high heating costs. Older doors and frames don’t have the same standards in construction as newer doors, so they can let in a lot of the cold air from outside. Without proper insulation, older doors will lead you to pay too much in heating your home. Additionally, if you’ve noticed your heating bill prices spiking, but you have not noticed any drops in temperature to account for this increase, then a wearing down of your door’s insulation is probably to blame. With a lot of use, the insulation on your door frame can wear down, which means they cannot do their job in insulating your home. At that point, it’s problem time for some repairing or replacement.
Difficulty in Opening and Closing
Another indicator that you may need to repair or replace your doors is if you are having difficulty opening and closing your doors. After time, doors can begin to get stuck in their frames because of swelling, paint buildup, or alignment problems between the door and the door frame. These kinds of problems are normal, but annoying because they limit your ability to use your doors, and these problems will not go away on their own. This is why it is important to get your doors and their frames either repaired or replaced early on.
Cracks and Other Damages
Obviously, if your doors have visible cracks or other damages to the wood, then they need to be repaired or replaced. Also, if your Cape Cod doors have windows and the windows are often fogging, then this can mean that the seals on your door windows are broken, another reason for repair or replacement. If you are noticing any of these problems, then it may be time for some door shopping.
