Old World Style Interior Plaster Can Transform Your Home

There is a charm about the Old World Italian villas and Mediterranean homes, with their rich textures and warm colors. The hallmark of Old World design is a comfortable look that shows wear and tear of use. To create a one of a kind surface in your home in St Louis, interior plaster professionals can bring the Old World to life. After all the furniture is protected, the trim in the area of the house that you want the plaster on is taped off as well as the windows, the plasterers can get started.

The first thing the plasterers will do will be to apply a coat of primer to the surface of the existing walls. They will use a dry-wall trowel or specialty faux finish trowel, to apply a pre-mixed lightweight joint compound to the walls. Drywall mud will be loaded onto the trowel and with the trowel held at a 45 degree angle, the mud will be applied to the walls creating an organic texture.

Organic texture will have grooves and pits that look similar to the shape of continents on a map. They will not cover the entire surface of the wall and won’t be more than ¼ in thick. If the mud is put on any thicker it will result in cracking. After at least 24 hours they will be back to lightly sand the entire surface and remove any loose plaster from the walls. After the dust is removed the entire wall surface will be covered with an even coat of paint.

Your choice of paint color will be mixed with glaze and applied to the wall in small sections. Old grocery bags, trash bags, or painter’s plastic sheeting will be wadded up to the size of a basketball. The balls of plastic will be used to pounce on the area where the glaze has been applied to manipulate the glaze. The glaze will naturally form an organic pattern as it falls into the crevices of the texture. They will continue to add glaze and pounce until all the walls have been glazed. Again they will be back after at least 24 hours.

The exterior of the home does not necessarily need to match the interior but if it does it would feel like you were really living in the Old World. Contact a St Louis interior plaster professional to discover just how beautiful your home can be.
