Jobs in Voice Over Production

There has to be a lot of talent and training when it comes to voice acting. The road to voice acting involves more than attending acting school or achieving experience through theater and other performing arts. You have to understand more specific principles such as breathing techniques and how to use your larynx, vocal chords, the tongue, and the teeth. If you’re dedicated enough to have mastered these skills then you are ready for a job. You may decide to pursue animation but a more lucrative endeavor would be voice over production, or VOP, since there is more of a market for this. There are several avenues you can take, and depending on your preference and your specific skill set, you can attain a job in any of these areas.

Storytelling in a Film
If you’re enthusiastic about film and the arts, why not go into being a voice over for a movie? Many films start out and continue with a narrator voicing over the movie. Sometimes they may use an actor who plays a large role in the film but other times directors and producers may prefer a fresh or a different voice. This is where you come in. If you practice your storytelling and acting abilities, you can be sure to land an audition for such a movie.

Dubbing a Movie
If you want to pursue the film industry and you’re not having luck with other options, you can always take part in dubbing a movie. When a movie makes it big in another country and will be released in the US, moviemakers often call on voice actors to dub over the foreign language. This could be a really enjoyable opportunity that allows you to play a big part in a film. After being provided with a translated script, all you have to do is match the original actor’s expression and intonation. Also, if you feel qualified enough in another language, you can possibly translate and English film into another language.

Educating Viewers
Another VOP job you could do is in educational videos and TV shows. Documentaries are often strung together by images, video clips, and interviews and need a narrator to make it come together. This is where you come in as a voice actor. Your voice will make a documentary more complete so after a few auditions, you’ll be sure to find work in this area of voice over production.
