Carpet Resoiling Problem

I always receive a lot of enquiries from my new customers about the problem of carpet resoiling. My customers claimed that their carpet was resoiled quickly after cleaning by other carpet cleaners. There are so many factors causing resoiling. One of the factors is if a non-extraction system was used for the cleaning (i.e. Wand cleaning method), there may be a great chance of soil attracting residue in the carpet. The reason is that the cleaning detergent residue was left behind because it was not cleaned thoroughly during the cleaning process.

The second factor is the amount of detergent was used. Most of the carpet detergents are concentrate and needed to be diluted in an appropriate ratio. Using too much or inappropriately diluted is one of the biggest causes of resoiling. Pre-spraying only in heavily soiled areas and use a small amount of prespray in lightly soiled areas in order to loosen the soil. Many carpet cleaners overspray ALL of the carpet hoping to remove the stains and dirt quickly. Unfortunately they did not rinse the carpet long enough by using an appropriate cleaning method (i.e. hot water extraction); the residue will leave behind and attract dust and grease like a magnet. This is the reason the carpet causes resoiling again in a short period of time.

The other factor is if the right pH (Potential of Hydrogen) of cleaning detergent was used. A measure of the degree of the acidity or the alkalinity as measured on a pH scale of 0 to 14. Numbers below 7.0 indicate acidity; numbers greater than 7.0 indicate alkalinity. The midpoint of 7.0 on the pH scale represents “neutrality”, that means neither acid nor alkaline. For heavily soiled carpet areas and heavily travelled commercial carpet, detergent with a higher pH scale should be used.

Furthermore, carpet fibers rinse is also necessary after carpet cleaning. Carpet rinse can neutralize odors and remove sticky residue from current and past cleanings. It removes alkaline residues from cleaning surfactants and allows the carpet to dry between 5 and 7 pH. It helps to prevent bleeding and browning of the carpet caused by oxidation as well.
